Kayla & Davis’ Wedding in the Highlands, NC

By September 12, 2013Weddings

Anyone I’ve talked with for more than 5 minutes knows how much I love our neighborhood and the community here. I feel like it’s our little pocket of Atlanta- walking distance to our favorite ice cream shop, excellent coffee, good eats and drinks, a sweet farmer’s market and, above all, filled to the brim with awesome people that we love- like Kayla & Davis. We pass their house almost daily on our walks, we chat at the neighborhood dog park, we say hi as we pass on evening jogs- we’re part of the same little community and we love it. We also happen to share a love for the NC mountains so when they told me they were planning their wedding at the Bascom, an art museum in Highlands NC, I was pumped!

Since I’m still in the fog of having a new baby (Evy was 9 days old when I shot this wedding!), looking back at all of the beautiful images helped me remember how important it is to capture the story of the wedding day- not just stunning images. While preparing this blog post, I really feel I’m celebrating their marriage all over again!

Kayla is a vibrant, thoughtful, down to earth person- it makes perfect sense that she has delightful, beautiful friends. Their natural, easy smiles throughout the day radiated their love of Kayla and their happiness for her- and I love the mix of those dresses:

Davis’ mom seeing Kayla for the first time, so sweet. I love these honest moments.

First look in the woods, yesss!

And THIS is why we love the mountains of NC so so much! Just stunning scenery around every bend, hidden streams, glistening greens, filtered light- I could go on forever. On Kayla & Davis’ wedding day, a light rain was falling, but in the woods under the old, broad trees, it was relatively dry. So thankful they were up for a little adventure because these images are some of my favorites, ever. I just feel like they capture the feeling of the woods I love so well.

So glad to see Norman was in the front row at their wedding! Pups are a big part of life- if they can be present, they should be. (plus, who can pass this face and not relax and smile?)

My laptop’s new wallpaper- a misty forest in early evening:

Wow. You two blow me away with your talent. These pictures are beyond what I ever could have imagined! You captured moments, I didn’t even know you did- and with such beauty! Thank you for spending your time with us even after the new addition to the family. It meant the world to us! We are going to have a tough time deciding our favorites because we love them ALL!
