running: ew?

i don’t know what triggered it but about a year ago EVERYONE started running. like, for fun. all around us friends were entering 10Ks and 1/2 marathons, collecting race teeshirts and comparing (always ugly) options for new running shoes. [sidenote: WHY ARE RUNNING SHOES SO UNATTRACTIVE? i know that 'is not the point' but really- every women's favorite color combo is no longer pink, teal and white. rant!] unfortunately, i’ve always been one to argue the idea of running- i just don’t get it. i understand exercise where there are points, rules and interaction, and also exercise where one goes to the gym and uses lots of fancy machines but i have never understood the allure of just. running. and then turning around and just. running. back.

BUT, we want to be in shape! matt has run off and on since his cross country days in high school but me? i’ve never run just for the sake of running. soccer conditioning until i quit mid-high school, running from a store to the car in the rain & the occasional sprint to catch the dog has been the extent of it for me. until 6 weeks ago.

so yes, we decided to give it a shot. mostly because i couldn’t come up with any other form of exercise that was more efficient and i wanted this ‘getting in shape thing’ to take as little time as possible. so, we’re running. our friends tell us that means we’re ‘runners’ now which kinda makes me giggle- who’d have thought!? we’ve been steadily lengthening our runs and we’re finding ourselves filling short work breaks reading about barefoot running, foot strike and looking for races that aren’t on saturdays.

i wish i could get all flowery and talk about the beauty i’ve found in running but that would just not be the case. it almost breaks my spirit every single time we go. ;) BUT, after about 5 minutes back in the air conditioning i feel a sense of pride and accomplishment that kinda makes it worth it. it at least makes me happy enough to forget the drowning humidity of running on a 100 degree day in atlanta- enough that i’ll get out and run again. so, i guess what i’m saying is that we’re trying this. no idea if it will stick with us but so far we’re looking ok. i just wanted to let you know in case we run into you and we’re all gross and sweaty and (in my case) terribly splotchy. it’s because we’re runners, ya’ll- HIGH FIVE!

and since it is HOT out there- a refreshing image for you! [feel free to click on the image to access the larger file and make it your desktop background!]

colleen & don are married!

i feel the need to warn you up front about this blog post. it is LONG. the most images we’ve EVER posted for a single wedding. and that being said i still want you to take a sec to watch their slideshow to see even more of our favorite images that we didn’t post here. because colleen & don are just. that. amazing!

we first met colleen & don at one of matt’s favorite places in atlanta, taqueria del sol, for a dinner of cross-cultural tacos and lots of talk about house hunting in the city. those two facts alone should give you enough information to know that this was a couple after our own hearts- we knew right away that working with them would be a joy. and thankfully, they decided we were a good fit too! so when the day finally came, we were excited to see them again and ready to create some beautiful images! the naturally stunning grounds of serenbe were all but glittering with sun (forecast? rain.) when we turned onto the lane that saturday morning. we squinted against the flood of yellow sunlight as it blanketed the cool greens and we smiled as every detail of the grounds set the stage for an epic wedding and celebration!

i arrived at the ladies’ cottage just as the florals showed up and ooed and ahhed with everyone else over their delicate colors- the perfect compliment to colleen’s natural elegance. everywhere i looked was a beautiful images waiting to be taken, seriously, look:

as the ceremony drew near, we zipped through fields and forest to arrive just in time to walk down the aisle. i love that matt was in the perfect position to capture this sweet moment between colleen’s parents as they looked over the beautiful scene of their families and closest friends waiting in the clearing for their daughter and her groom. such proud parents:

after colleen & don had an intimate moment to soak in the goodness of their new life together, we began exploring the amazing grounds of serenbe. we could have spent the entire day shooting around the property but there was a party to attend! so we made the most of the time colleen had allotted and loved every second of it! this is where you click over to the slideshow to see MORE!

the reception started with a sweet first dance and continued into a great celebration of dancing, laughing and general fun! the band was full of energy and a few suprises- talking more than one guest into a solo dance on stage! a few of our faves:

elizabeth anne designs, love!

we first ‘met’ ami on valentine’s day in 2008. she left us some love on our spankin’ new blog and when i linked over to her site an hour passed before i realized it- i was hooked! both relatively new to the wedding world, ami & i found we had a lot in common and our relationship has continued all this time- thank goodness for gchat! we were lucky enough celebrate with her as she and her sweet husband renewed their vows last year in atlanta and we hope to continue the ATL hang outs with a little bark in the park action this fall! i think charlie & stellbell would be fast friends, don’t you? :) anyway anyway, since we love ami so much, we are especially flattered to see jennifer & morgan’s wedding featured on her site- elizabeth anne designs! click around and explore over there- but beware, the eye candy is addicting!

cake & pictures!

first of all, i’ve never been a huge fan of cake. i grew up with cookies and brownies on my birthday- always avoiding the sponginess of dry, artificially flavored birthday cake. BUT THEN- i grew up! i started going to weddings! i started to work in the wedding industry- an industry fraught with cake obsession- and i had to give it another shot. this time it was different- i LOVED it! fresh raspberries, smooth ganache, rich vanilla- thank goodness i tried it again! i’m pretty sure i’d have been kicked straight out of this industry if things had gone differently… ;)

so it is with that introduction that i introduce you to a perfectly delightful website called cake & pictures -’an exclusive directory of simply the finest wedding photographers in the world’ where you’ll find a lovely shout out to amy & dan and lil ole altmix photography, thankyouverymuch! so please jump on over to their site to leave them some love and check out the sweetness:

beth & lawton are married!

we were so excited that we’d be spending part of our memorial day weekend in one of our favorite cities- athens! and we were equally excited that we’d be there to celebrate the marriage of two awesome people so obviously in love- beth & lawton! we arrived to a silent city [very few athens citizens are ever awake at 7:45 on a saturday morning ;)] and the peaceful stillness washed over me as i walked up the big wooden stairs in arbor salon where beth was quietly talking to her mom as she was having her nails done. our morning passed leisurely as beth and her sweet mom were pampered and prepped for the big day ahead! as energetic and outgoing as beth is, this seemed to be her time to breathe deeply, absorb the day, dream and prepare for the new life she would be starting with lawton. it was the perfect way to get started!

from the salon we were off to the foundry to enjoy a big breakfast beth’s dad was preparing- surrounded by a smiling group of excited ladies! beth was welcomed into the suite with hugs and even a few cheers as her best friends oooed and ahhhed over her hair and makeup and recounted what happened while beth was at the salon. the ladies finished getting ready while i grabbed a few details and beth took a quiet moment to write a note to her husband to be:

meanwhile:

when beth arrived at the church she quickly hung up her dress and checked over a few details while we waited for the rest of her bridesmaids to arrive. she was so excited to see lawton when he arrived that she couldn’t stop grinning as she fanned out her programs and arranged her guestbook, a gift from her sister, near the doors of the church.

then it was finally time for beth & lawton to see one another! after an intimate first look in the sanctuary we headed out into the sun for some fun, summery portraits full of huge smiles and excitement- their love was overflowing and it was beautiful to capture:

the girls and guys headed back to the ac to relax before the ceremony. when the time came, the nerves snuck in just barely but were quickly erased by the antics of their adorable and totally unpredictable flower girl:

after beth & lawton were officially a new family, we took some time to make images on their (and our!) old stomping grounds- the beautiful north campus of the university of georgia. be sure to click over to their slideshow to see some of the fun images beth & lawton had in mind for their full bridal party!

the reception seemed to fly by in a whirl of dancing- before we knew it, they were off!

beth & lawton, thank you so much for bringing us back to athens to enjoy your love and be reminded of our own! we wish you the very best in texas and we hope you’re loving married life!
