hi!

thanks so much for stopping by and glancing into our world as creatives, puppy lovers and experimental urban farmers. (oh, how i NEVER saw that last one coming!) we're matt & kate altmix- a husband/wife wedding photography team based in Atlanta doing what we love- shaking things up and cleverly capturing some of life's most beautiful moments!

please take a second to check out our work, maybe read a few posts and leave some comments- we'd love to hear from you! you'll quickly see how intertwined our lives are with our work so it is important you know how 'unique' we are upfront. that was your warning. enjoy!

sarah & wilson are engaged!

when sarah & wilson mentioned having their engagement photos taken on wilson’s family’s property in north georgia we were excited. for us, it meant a trip out of our busy city and into the land of spacious farms, quiet ponds and sweet air- refreshment! we didn’t know quite what to expect but as we neared the property and turned onto a wooded, gravel road, we began to get excited about all of the possibilities. we’re used to shooting in atlanta and making the most of 8 square feet of grass between two buildings so walking through this property, green as far as we could see, felt so luxurious! we really enjoyed our afternoon with sarah & wilson- getting to know them as a couple and finding that we share a love of all things athens and all things outdoors (although we aren’t nearly as hardcore and in shape, they’re awesome!). our shoot ended with a beautiful sunset and we drove back toward the city lights with dust clinging to our shoes and a renewed thankfulness that we have such wonderful clients. :)

this next location was my favorite of the whole shoot! the trees are so huge and so dense that they let in only small beams of light, like little spotlights! i just loved the drama of it:

as the sun sank lower, the sun warmed to a gold and filtered through the green leaves, electrifying the color. it was as if sarah knew the exact shade to expect when she chose her outfit!

LOVE this next image! i think it perfectly portrays how peaceful and relaxing this whole shoot was as well as how comfortable and in love these two are:

sarah & wilson, thank you so much for getting us out into the country for such a great afternoon with you guys! looking forward to your wedding day!

    yvonne & jesse are engaged!

    love these two!

the first time we met yvonne & jesse, they were both sick. we felt SO bad- we could have rescheduled our meeting! but no, the night of our first introduction to yvonne & jesse, we found out right away that they are incredibly driven, excited & passionate- nothing slows them down- not even the lousy summer cold they were fighting! so that night we shared a delicious dinner and great conversation and as we left we made plans to grab another meal soon. a couple months later, over brunch, we discussed their engagement images- they love good food as much as we do and they chose to have their images made in and around two of their (and our!) most favorite restaurants, leon’s and sun in my belly! we spent a sunlit afternoon exploring and catching up on life, wedding planning and the atlanta food scene…and also taking pictures! ;) here are just a few of our faves:

yvonne seems to be always overflowing with happiness! her smile is so brilliant and jesse knows exactly how to trigger it. i really have no idea what he was whispering to her while we were shooting but just looking back over these images makes me smile, remembering just how adorable they are together:

LOVE this next photo. yvonne is just stunning:

yvonne & jesse have two awesome scooters to get around town and if they ever need a car they use a zipcar! i like their style. we grabbed a few images with the scooter they arrived on before following them (shooting from our car, haha) to the next location, fun!

we ended the evening underneath marta, so romantic! but really:

yvonne & jesse, we are so glad to know you! you’re such a special couple and capturing the deep connection you two so obviously share was a joy. cannot wait for the wedding!

      becca & ben are married!

now that you’ve experienced becca & ben’s photobooth in all of its’ glory, it’s time for their equally fabulous wedding! we begin in the small town of upatoi, ga, a little over two hours south of atlanta, where some of their family members have a beautiful home and property. while wedding setup began at the house, becca and her friends began their preparations in a lovely little church. the tiny white chapel has such a homey feeling about it and was the perfect way to begin such an intimate, personalized wedding celebration. when i arrived becca was relaxing and laughing with her friends. a little while later she began casually braiding her thick brown hair and adding twists here and there- until she was satisfied. our mutual friend, erica, began to deftly apply becca’s makeup: such a light and natural look with a little sass around the eyes, perfectly stunning. the atmosphere was that of a perfectly restful golden summer day- the way you might feel lingering over a delicious brunch on a patio, mimosa in hand, knowing a day of enjoyment is ahead. i have to commend becca did not allow even one little beautiful moment escape her notice:

after a few portrait-y photos, it was time for the ceremony. the sun cooperated so perfectly and shined golden through the cool green oaks that surrounded the site. the perfect setting:

becca & ben set aside plenty of time for couple portraits and we were excited to learn they wanted to get some at the little white chapel where they got ready! the natural beauty that surrounded every aspect of their day was like a playground for matt & me!

this next photo really struck me. i love the timeless quality of the environment and the naturally classic look of becca & ben- you could easily convince me this photo was taken decades ago:

isn’t this just the most adorable church ever!? it’s available for weddings, in case you were wondering. :) we were so happy to be shooting such an awesome couple in this unique spot:

      meanwhile, back at the house:

becca & ben share a love of craft beer and spent some of their free time over the past year visiting some of their very favorite breweries and collecting growlers and bottles to infuse into their wedding decor. i love it when couples think of fun ways like this to display their shared interests! and, since many of their guests (and matt & i, too!) share their love of craft beer, it was so fun for everyone to look around at all of the great places they traveled- sampling and exploring new cities!

becca, notorios for her inability to keep secrets from ben, succeeded in keeping one BIG secret from him until their wedding day: she organized the designing and brewing of a special beer just for their wedding! this is pure surprise:

becca & ben, thank you SO much for asking us to capture your wedding day; we feel so blessed to have been part of such a wonderful celebration. we wish you guys the very best; hope to run into you at the many favorite places we share! :)

        becca & ben: the photobooth!

sometimes, two things combine to become more than just the sum of their parts. excellent example: becca&ben+photobooth. this is our longest photobooth post ever ever. enjoy!

        shark pinata, brilliant choice, becca!

this is my favorite father/daughter image ever.

and then…crash! haha, the sign of a good night!

the last time we saw ben he looked like THIS. so, even though he shaved for the wedding, his awesome moustache was still celebrated.

you guys, i cannot even wait to share the wedding pics…can you even imagine after seeing these!??

          the morgan family!

i first met jaynah when i was a freshman in college- our boyfriends were roommates. she was going to school in augusta and we really only saw one another in passing on her visits to athens to hang out with andrew (her boyfriend since 8th grade!). i remember when they got engaged- seeing her ring and the excitement on their faces and later thinking to myself, woah, that might be us one day. fast forward several years and then it was our turn. thank goodness i had jaynah to answer my wedding questions and encourage me to look past the little things and focus on the joy of the big picture! fast forward again and it was time for us to get a puppy- jaynah & andrew were there to talk to us about their experience with breeders and puppies and help us know what questions to ask. fast forward once more. JUST KIDDING! we aren’t there yet. but you better believe when we’re expecting, jaynah & andrew will, once again, be answering all of our ridiculous questions, calming us down and being excited with us, just like always. jaynah is such a strong person, so incredibly talented in so many different areas. she’s the perfect wife to andrew and it’s so sweet to see him appreciate her and praise the wonder woman that he married. their sweet little two year old peyton wore matt and me out, completely, in just an afternoon! it only increases my admiration that jaynah keeps up with peyton’s energy and the demands of the little boy in her belly, while still rocking her career as an occupational therapist and finding time to get a pedicure. let’s all pause and give her a well-deserved salute! look at this sweet family:

seriously, peyton does not slow down! she literally ran for at least half of the session- if only i could have that kind of energy! we’re slowly learning what andrew and jaynah already know so well- go with the flow and capture all the quick, little moments that you can!

this next series just steals my heart. little peyton is SO loved and cared for and she just lights up when she plays with her parents. oh, this family:

jaynah & andrew, thank you so much for making the trip to atlanta to hang out with us! we miss you guys, can’t wait for you to call georgia home again, one day! can’t even wait to meet baby james!
