mary katherine & nick are married!

OH, these two. they’re just more perfect together than you can imagine. sometimes, you see a couple and immediately feel that they…just…FIT. mary katherine & nick are this way. it’s hard for even close family and friends to articulate how deep their bond goes, how well they complement one another and just how happy everyone is to see them begin their own family. their comfort level together is tremendous and they really do move as if, one. they are so aware of one another, but it’s not conscious, it’s seen in small movements and following their eyes, they just understand one another so intimately. but even through this connection, there is a shared love of their families and friends. their wedding day was full of sweet vignettes- little conversations ending in laughs or hugs or eye squinting smiles- such a beautiful picture of their life together. it was such an honor to capture it all.

i love this quick moment of mary katherine with her mom. they are SO close and nick has such a great relationship with his mother-in-law. it really does speak volumes for how well he treats her precious daughter! ;)

mary katherine & nick were married at the wimbish house, a beautiful and intimate space in midtown, atlanta. the mansion, now event space, provides an atmosphere of hanging out in the home of the bride and groom- so perfect for mary katherine & nick’s easy going personalities:

these next images are just moments after the recessional. i love how beautifully and peacefully they soak up their union:

mary katherine & nick share a love of literature and their wedding decor certainly reflected that! she chose some of the novels i cherish most as her table markers. i really do love her for that! they also used old champagne and wine bottles to help set the scene- perfect, since they met across a restaurant’s bar!

towards the end of the night their guests gathered on the front porch of the wimbish house and enjoyed cigars and after dinner cocktails. these are some of our favorite images:

as the sun set, guests trickeld back inside for some dancing and socializing before calling it a night. what a beautiful, smoothly orchestrated wedding day. courtesy of the wonderful, nicole halverson fantz.

hillary & jon are married!

YOU GUYS. have you ever been to new orleans? because until hillary & jon’s wedding, we had not. and now that we have, we’re in love! and i want to go back already. the food…oh my. i can’t even talk in coherent sentences about it. and then there’s hillary & jon, who we love and adore and call our friends, and what could be better than so many of our favorite things in one place? (besides writing this blog post with a little takeout bag of beignets, obvs.) nothing. so, here we go!

hillary & jon warned us about new orleans- they prepared us for the oppressive heat and rich, delicious, addicting foods. what we were not expecting was the rain. it POURED for at least a portion of every day we were there. not to be daunted, we splashed around the city, ducking into cafes and bakeries ‘when it was raining too hard’ (read: whenever we felt like a pastry). we spent two days getting to know the city and meeting some wonderfully colorful people. by the time hillary & jon’s wedding day arrived we couldn’t wait to pour all of our love for hillary’s home town right into their images.

the beautiful lake pontchartrain:

hillary & jon were married in the chapel of st. martin’s episcopal school, where hillary attended as a child. i love that she decided to start this next chapter of her life in such a meaningful, nostalgic environment.

hillary & jon’s reception was held at the new orleans museum of art- such a stunning setting for their party! they brought in dramatic lighting and bold florals to complete the effect. just before the wedding day, a huge paper installation was set up in their main reception space. it wasn’t at all what hillary had in mind for the centerpiece for her wedding reception but she good-naturedly rolled her eyes and accepted it. really, in looking back over the images, the way their lighting played off the paper made it look like it could have been part of the plan all along. no harm done!

dancing portraits! ;)

hillary & jon snuck away from their guests for a few couple portraits around the museum:

for their send-off at the end of the night, hillary & jon’s friends and family tossed handfulls of dried lavender. it was such a beautiful experience. the air smelled so sweet and floral- i know they’ll always feel bliss whenever they smell lavender from now on. i love the thought of that so much:

hillary & jon, thanks so much for having us! we had such a wonderful time capturing your wedding day and celebrating with you. we wish you guys the very best!

hannah & nick are married!

hannah & nick had the most perfect southern wedding. there was intricate lace, sweet iced tea, dreamy pastures and golden sunlight- and of course, plenty of hugs and smiles to go around! oh, and there were popsicles, which is totally awesome but i’ll get to that later. we arrived at hannah & nick’s wedding a little earlier than we scheduled to start shooting so that we could scout out the property. we were so excited to notice the amount of time scheduled for couple portraits and we wanted to take full advantage of the beautiful venue hannah chose! after making a few mental notes of locations to return to later, we returned to find hannah, reclining with her best friends, chatting away and enjoying a light lunch. the chill, fun vibe of the day was set!

the temperature climbed up to 97 degrees as we finished up bridal party and family portraits outside so it was quite a relief to hang out around the huge fans running inside. i love these images matt took of nick as he cooled off and relaxed before the ceremony:

when the time came for couple portraits we couldn’t wait to get started! hannah & nick are such naturals- they rocked every location and pose direction we threw at them! these are some of my favorite portraits ever, so classic:

KING OF POPS! yes, please. what a perfect treat for a warm summer wedding!

hannah & nick, congratulations! you guys had an awesome wedding; thank you so much for having us. hope you’re loving married life!

tatum & matt are married!

we first met tatum & matt when they were both in kyle & chris’s bridal party- i love this small world! and what’s more, we use a copy of kyle & chris’s wedding album to show clients our album style at meetings so, after a year or so of seeing tatum & matt’s smiling faces, i pretty much felt that we’d known them forever! …something i had to reign in when we met with them because in reality, i’d only met them once…over a year ago. ;) but that’s just how tatum & matt make you feel. we talked with them about everything- houses, garden plans, pets, work…everything! they are just down to earth folks- easy to talk to and feel comfortable around. and together? they are a wonderful couple- fun and quick to laugh with one another- i’m so glad they trusted us to capture every special moment of their wedding!

tatum & matt decided to have a private moment to see one another before the ceremony. i love tatum’s smile as all traces of nervousness vanish when she sees matt. i understand moments like this before the ceremony aren’t right for everyone but, in many cases, it is perfect:

after their beautiful ceremony we headed to st. ives country club for their reception fun to begin! but first, a few quick portraits before the party really started!

it’s rare that a couple knows exactly what to do when it comes time to cut the cake. but it really is as simple as it sounds! pick up a knife or just grab a fork and feed one another little bites of cake, easy! but don’t worry if things don’t go perfectly according to plan…like when tatum & matt had a huge boulder of a piece fall onto their plate! i love their faces here:

their massive leftovers:   ;)

tatum & matt, huge congratulations to you on your new marriage and on having an awesome wedding to celebrate it! we loved that we were able to be there and capture sweet moments for you. we wish you the best!

melissa & thea are married!

i’m not really sure where to begin with these two. i could talk all day about their obviously amazing sense of style or their equally obvious excitement and love for life. but even greater than that, what i find myself really drawn to when it comes to melissa & thea is their natural ability to make everyone around them feel like part of their family. they are social, yes, that’s part of it, but they are just so genuinely interested in enjoying life with others, i love it! capturing their wedding day was just so much fun for us. on the way home matt and i talked nonstop about all of the different perfect moments we were so lucky to witness- and photograph! i couldn’t wait to sift through their images and relive them this week and i’m even more excited to share them with you now! the only downside is how many of our favorite shots did not even make it to this post- we had to draw a line somewhere! please please go check out their slideshow and experience a little more of the fabulousness of melissa & thea’s wedding day! i’m going to tell this story between the images because we’re including so many- let’s get started!

melissa’s day started at spa sentio, on the westside of atlanta. there, she and her bridesmaids and her sweet mom all had their hair and makeup masterfully designed. seriously, i don’t meant to focus on the surface details here but really, everyone looked like the cover of a magazine! a beautiful start to a most wonderful wedding day!

when we arrived at the church thea was ready and waiting:

i just love it when brides are walked down the asile by both parents. this is something i really wish i’d thought of for our wedding. in melissa’s case it was especially perfect as she and thea were married in the very same church where melissa’s parents were married so many years ago! this must have been so special for her parents.

one of the things i love about catholic ceremonies is the moment when the priest invites those present to ‘offer each other a sign of peace.’ it’s a rather fun break from the solemnity of the rest of the ceremony and there is always a bit of laughter and lots of hugs and handshakes. in the images below melissa’s mom is returning to her seat from the other side of the asile where thea’s family was sitting. i just love how these two families really have come together with the marriage of their children. the whole day i kept seeing melissa and thea’s moms hugging and talking together and it made my heart warm to know that they are all officially family now!

melissa & thea (with the guidance of their fantastic planner, eliana) made the brilliant decision to create a significant break between the wedding ceremony and their reception. this gave time for plenty of portraits as well as relaxation and even time for melissa & thea to share a meal together before the party began! i understand that kind of schedule is not for everyone but for melissa & thea’s wedding day it was such a GREAT idea!

thea and his groomsmen were hilarious- they kept us all laughing all day! they were just so into celebrating and having a good time that even the heat of this atlanta afternoon didn’t slow them down:

while we were outside shooting portraits, eliana and her team were accenting the beautifully clean space of the foundry with deep purples and pops of orange. here are just a few of the many thoughtful details:

when the time came for melissa & thea to be introduced, their guests could not have been more excited! i love how epic their introduction was- so much cheering and hugs and high fives- it really got the reception off to a great start!

you guys, LOOK at this. SO many people! and everyone so emotional and excited. i can’t even begin to describe the energy in this room- it was so amazing to be a part of it!

melissa & thea’s sweet first dance took an abrupt turn and their bridal party joined them in an awesome group dance:

look at thea dancing with melissa’s mom, they are so hilarious and awesome together:

part of the way into the reception melissa changed into a sassy little short white dress- not only adorable but also much easier to dance in:

melissa & thea, you guys are the best. really really. we feel so honored to have been there to capture everything! i hope you guys have as much fun as we did reliving your wedding through your images!
