carolyn & trae are engaged!

carolyn & trae are the two busiest people i know so when their engagement session got rained out i was so relieved when we found another date before their wedding that would work! but THEN, it rained again. wasn’t there a drought here in the atl not too long ago!? anyway, whatever the weather carolyn & trae were ready and willing to push right through and make the shoot happen! we’d met them at a pretty park near emory and as soon as we were all assembled and ready to go, the rain forced us under cover. we wandered through parking decks, overhangs, construction, loading docks and healthcare buildings searching for covered areas to shoot and looking back, i am seriously impressed by how patient and relaxed these two were! in the end i think their session ended with a pretty diverse sets of images- each little vignette different but beautiful thanks to their love and optimism!

carolyn & trae, there’s something special about a couple who can ignore their surroundings and just focus on each other the way you guys can! we are so excited for your upcoming wedding, after this shoot i know it will be such a joyous day!

hannah & steve are engaged!

steve lived pretty much next door to me for a couple years in college so when he sent me a message that he was engaged and i saw we were booked for his wedding i was bummed- to say the least. because, you see, steve is a unique person- he was always off to work out or study or play sports but always with a surprisingly calm demeanor. even though he seemed pretty scheduled i never saw him stressed- he was always quick to laugh at his crazy roommate or just smile and say hello as we passed in the parking lot. that, my friends, makes for a special person- and i knew any girl that could keep up with him must be amazing too.

dead on! meeting hannah we could immediately see that she and steve ‘clicked.’ if you think that sounds cheesy you should hang out with them and come up with a better way to explain it. ;) they compliment each other in every way and easily made one another smile and laugh. couples like hannah & steve make us so happy! it was also really great that they totally trusted our instincts and were willing to venture anywhere to get ‘the’ shot. but more on that later, for now, the lovely, hannah & steve:

so when i mentioned they were willing to go anywhere…one of those places was the roof! and not just the roof, we had them standing on a bench at the edge of the roof so we could just get pretty sky and not roof grossness in this image- they look so peaceful for the position they are in!

the next place was a secret indoor location- we will not disclose it because we do not want to openly admit to what MIGHT have been trespassing…

this is one of the last images we grabbed before we headed back to the cars. i love seeing couples laugh together- it just helps me to see how much fun they will have together forever!

paige & jonathan are engaged!

matt and i first met paige at jessica’s beautiful beach wedding and we were excited to see her again at andrea’s lovely southern wedding in augusta. so when we heard from her about her own wedding it was like we had already practiced a few times! this past week we had the pleasure of meeting her fiance jonathan and squeezing in an engagement shoot before they had to head back to their home in texas. paige & jonathan put the entire shoot in our hands- from the timing to the location, we were in charge. that means we decided to head outside the box a little and explore an area of town we’d never shot in before- cabbagetown. this close little community offered so much variety; i have no doubt we’ll be back!

when we met up with them at agave to start shooting jonathan immediately wanted us to know he would do whatever we said but that he was not a natural in front of the lens. this is a speech we are actually quite used to and pretty good at discounting ;) because really, all we ask is that you enjoy some time with your best friend and the love of your life- and just ignore us while we capture it! so jonathan, i hope your fears are cured as you scroll through these images! it makes it even better that your stunning lady can pull off some serious ANTM!

first up- this wall is on the side of agave so we started the shoot off here. this was one of the VERY first shots we took and i think they look like total models- a great way to get things started!

this is the back of a restaurant- we loved the dilapidated planks and the warm colors- it creates quite a nostalgic backdrop. perfect for a couple that has been dating since high school!

the light here made us really happy, so even though the house in the background is not theirs, we wanted to see if including it could be effective. i don’t think that little fact is too distracting at all! plus paige’s gorgeous eyes really steal the show anyway!

marta runs along the edge of cabbagetown and provided us with this huge color field-esque wall to shoot against- and i love how the bare trees frame them here!
