brandi & thomas are married!

By | Weddings | 5 Comments

matt and i don’t have favorite couples or favorite weddings but if we did, brandi & thomas’s would be on that list. but we don’t have said list, so…starting over… ;)

my day with brandi started with a delicious brunch spread in the restaurant at the king plow arts center. all of the ladies from brandi’s family lounged around with her best friends, recalling old stories about brandi, laughing at their crazy exploits and generally enjoying the easy pace of a well-planned wedding day. [as a little side note i want to bestow some huge props to one of our very first clients ever, laura, who was brandi’s wedding planner! it was wonderful to see her again and hear about her booming new business! it was equally exciting to watch her truly ROCK at her job; give her a call if you’re in the market!] the girls took turns dipping out to have their hair done and before i knew it brandi was ready to get into her stunning dress and spend some time with thomas- if only every wedding day could be as relaxed and peaceful!

while the guys were finishing up i had a few extra minutes to grab the rings; i guess when you notice a pin stuck in an old post it’s kinda meant to be:

matt’s morning was just as calm and cool as mine- he hung out with thomas and some of his closest friends and by the time he saw me he was just one of the guys. he also learned all about thomas’s amazing new job as a landscape architect at one of the most creative firms in atlanta- i think you’ll notice his & brandi’s passion for the natural in their reception decor!

brandi & thomas are super sweet together- their first look literally brought tears to my eyes! they were both just so excited to see one another- they’d been apart a whole 12 hours! they are just meant to be together, always, love it!

after portraits while everyone was cooling off inside, matt had a few minutes to capture some of the details they designed! thomas did all of the graphics and they masterminded the rest together. i love how they used natural materials but still achieved a vibrant, modern color scheme:

i’ve never seen a bride so pumped to walk down the aisle! brandi could barely stop laughing she was so excited to marry thomas!

after the ceremony we took a little time to explore the grounds with brandi & thomas. we were thrilled to still have daylight so we could make use of all of the interesting architecture! i love how these next two capture what a beautiful day it was- it compliments their overflowing happiness:

sometimes if we ask you to look directly into the sun for an image we’ll suggest you just close your eyes until we’re 100% ready…and then we may or may not shoot while your eyes are closed to make sure our settings are perfect…and then we may end up liking that photo the best: ;)

we decided we’d end with a few portraits in the air conditioning so we could all cool off before the big introduction- a little drama, anyone?

i love the movement in this next image of their introduction- it portrays so much of the energy and happiness we were surrounded by the whole day!

brandi & thomas, we are so thrilled you guys trusted us to capture such an incredible day- we had an amazing time being part of it all! hope you guys had a super relaxing honeymoon and we hope to see you soon!

nicole & dan are married!

my birthday week came to a close at nicole & dan’s wedding and since i’d been celebrating pretty much all week i was quite prepared to celebrate more! i arrived at the W- incidentally the perfect place to begin any party- and nicole immediately introduced me around. the room was full of family and close friends all talking and smiling and enjoying adorable tiny sandwiches. nicole’s sense of humor made it easy for me to enjoy shooting all day- she had us all laughing out loud with her offhand comments! literally, LOLing. i should hire her to write this blog. AND redesign this blog- LET ME JUST TELL YOU- she’s got an amazing design sense and it took a serious ‘discussion’ with matt for me to realize that i cannot include every single picture of every detail of her wedding. let’s get back to the tiny sandwiches at the W- hair and makeup was in full swing and since the guys didn’t need matt for another hour he was able to grab the rings and nicole’s dress and capture some killer details! this is my favorite ring shot taken on an old typewriter at the bar:

meanwhile the girls (and i) were laughing and generally relaxing and enjoying the day- love this next series of nicole and her bridesmaids:

before the guys started getting ready matt met up with them and they all made their way up to the roof to make some amazing images! the day was so cold the water from the pool was steaming- pretty:

after all of the finishing touches we jumped into a trolly bound for the king plow arts center– where the ceremony and reception was held. when we walked in we headed straight to the site to check on the decor. mark thompson, floral stylist for christopher confero luxe event design and a friend of nicole’s from design school worked with christopher to lovingly craft an environment with nicole in mind. she knew the general concept of their design but many of the details were a surprise- i think i was excited as everyone else when we were greeted with this perfect entry table!

nicole & dan’s wedding was illuminated by HUNDREDS of candles and to complete the glowing, romantic atmosphere, a dreamy golden tree was projected at the altar. i’d never seen anything like it before- the candlelight flickered off the old bricks and glistened at the edges of more than one set of eyes. the effect was intimate and calming. (attn photo nerds: we shot the ceremony at 6400 ISO at 1/40th of a second)

after the ceremony we had a few minutes to grab some portraits before the reception. it was freezing outside so after a few one light portraits around the grounds we decided to embrace the cold for the last few shots and capture the breath that came out in a puff of white with each exhale. the resulting images are pretty intense:

meanwhile the guests were enjoying the beautiful hors d’oeuvres and sparkling beverages that define bold american catering. they clustered around high tables with natural arrangements of perfect buds in re-purposed glass- glowing with the flickering warm light of yet MORE candles. so glad we had a second to grab some shots of the decor before the party started!

nicole & dan entered to deafening applause and cheers with grins stretched across their faces. the celebration was joyful and there was plenty of dancing and laughing! here are a few of our favorite shots:

just before the end of the evening we snuck nicole & dan out for just a few more images of the two of them. i love capturing just a few portraits at the end of the wedding day- after everything is over and there are no more details to worry about- it’s so natural and relaxed.

nicole & dan, thank you so much for allowing us to photograph such a beautiful day! we enjoyed getting to know you guys more as well as your families- capturing it all was great! we wish you both the very best!

laura & jason are married!

By | Weddings | 19 Comments

laura & jason have had us excited for their future for a long time- everything about them makes us smile! not only have they been together since high school (always so sweet!) but they balance each other out so well. jason is a man’s man, into playing sports as much as watching them while laura is a girl’s girl, smart as they come yet also well versed in celebrity gossip and dance music. love her. ;) as much as we love to get to know our clients ahead of time we always learn so much more about them as a couple on the wedding day. with laura and jason all we heard over and over was that everyone had known they were perfect together for a LONG time and that it was really just about time they start the rest of their lives together!

on the day of their wedding everything was calm -a few small tears of joy were shed- which made the day even more beautiful. everyone was focused on what was about to happen and no one could have been more excited than laura! well, maybe jason, but i spent my day with laura so we’ll go with that. every time she checked the clock a huge smile would spread over her face- after almost eight years of dating, she was so ready to get married!

let’s start things off with this adorable picture of laura touching up her mom’s polish- as much as the wedding day is about the bride, laura took time to care for those close to her and make sure everything was perfect for everyone at the wedding, not just her & jason. it was touching to watch her relax and laugh with her friends and chat with her mom and soon to be sisters and mother in law- thanks to the time she spent with her amazing planners, she had everything organized perfectly before the day and that really allowed her to be intentional and enjoy everything, a great example for every bride!

one of laura’s bridesmaids, kelly, had the MOST amazing eyes! she was so generous to let me get all up in her space to take this shot- kelly, i hope you agree that it was totally worth it! you look beautiful! :)

i love how calm and peaceful this image is- laura looks so elegant!

03_king_plow_032109

ok, matt laughed out loud when he saw this next image- which meant it was immediately marked for the blog ;)

04_king_plow_032109

i am obsessed with this portrait of laura. my favorite thing about it is that it is completely candid- she was standing in front of this window casually chatting with her ladies and when we were flipping back through the pictures afterward we were thrilled with this one of just her- i’m pretty sure she is a model. or could be. maybe SHOULD be. just stunning:

how cute is she holding her dress up like this!? a last minute check before heading out for some portraits:

we were walking back in from some outdoor portraits when we realized that jason’s two sisters were each helping to hold up laura’s dress- matt jumped up in front of the girls to grab a few shots and this one ended up being one of our favorite shots of the day!

i’ve talked a lot about laura’s sweet personality and her good looks but now it’s jason’s turn- GQ anyone!?

08b_king_plow_032109

and jason and his gents, seriously a handsome group! i love how matt saw the light here and stopped them to take a few nontraditional portraits. i think these images came out quite manly- at least, if i were a guy, i think i’d feel pretty good about being in this shot:

laura & jason chose the stunning backdrop of the king plow arts center for their wedding and matt and i were thrilled to be working there! everything about this venue is amazing- from the beautiful (and tasty!) creations of bold american catering, to the unique antiquated plow factory details that this space is known for. before the ceremony started we took the time to capture the stunning decor & details and fell in love with the look of the space as a whole- this shaft of light bolted through the room for just a limited time but the effect was just dreamy:

…and here it is in action! i will stop my blabbing for a bit during the ceremony images ;)

ok, i’m back. mostly because i had to mention how much i loved the candle display at the ‘alter.’ all of the different heights of white candles created a stunning patch of light- what a perfect idea!

this is my favorite introduction shot ever. EVER. they look like total rockstars and the expressions on their guests faces are priceless:

this picture makes me laugh because i have never seen a more perfectly organized train line in my whole life! laura must be a great leader! ;)

20_king_plow_032109

i expected nothing less than a classy exit from jason & laura and that’s exactly what we got! love them!

21_king_plow_032109
laura & jason, we wish you the very best! thank you so much for allowing us to capture everything- you two, your friends and families made our job such a joy. i know we’ll be seeing you both again, until then, we hope you’re enjoying married life!
